CULBURB: Shaping Cities Symposium

Shaping Cities Symposium was a part of reSITE 2012 festival, and questioned the role of non-profit organisations in the creation of city spaces.

May 22, 2012 / NTK, Prague

The CULBURB Symposium "SHAPING CITIES Prague" gathered various European initiatives operating in urban space on different levels.

The event was a part of reSITE 2012 festival and questioned the role of non-profit organizations in the creation of city spaces. During the event participants brought up some questions: Are non-profit organisations nonelected groups of interest promoting their own interpretation of public good? Or do they represent a litmus paper of the level of democracy in the society?

On the ground of this symposium a documentation of such organizations from whole Europe took place. The creation of a unifying web database was aimed to enable to have an overview of the status quo, but mainly to have a mutual interconnection among the organizations with similar aims and sharing of their experiences. The symposium was supported by Österreichisches Kulturforum Prag, Goethe Institut Prag and the Embassy of Sweden, Embassy od Netherlands.
